The Deadline Approaches, September 23rd, 2010, Are you complying with Healthcare Reform
September 23rd is a key date for healthcare reform and this deadline is fast approaching. Many parts of healthcare reform occur on or after September 23, 2010, and then the really major ones kick in January of 2014. What are you doing to comply? Have you read the healthcare reform law? Have you read the guidelines that were just issued in June giving guidance on Grandfather plans and other things. Do you understand it and is it crystal clear? Are you aware of guidelines or rules that will explain the interpretation of the rules that go into effect September 23rd or the June guidelines? What you think, how you interpret it, and how your legal team interprets things could be totally different than how a governmental entity or body interprets it.
I’ll make you an offer. We can teach you everything you need to know and give you 24 hours to implement it! Sound like a fair deal? If you are quick learner you can attend the National Healthcare Reform Conference September 20-22nd, 2010, learn everything you need and still have that extra 24 hours before the 23rd kicks in. I hope you appreciate the fact that I am kidding, although some attendees are coming just for that.
My editorial this month is short and to the point. The first deadlines are coming up very fast. You need to know the letter of the law and it’s intent. Saying that your advisor or legal team told you it meant “X” won’t matter to the government if they interpret it as “y.” Don’t get caught in non-compliance.
For those of you looking to become experts with 24 hours to comply, then I look forward to seeing you in sunny Los Angeles soon. For those of you that need more than 24 hours, you at least will get some leeway to implement the changes soon after the law passes and most likely avoid and non-compliance issues or fines. I was just in LA last week for a site tour of the hotel, and it reminded me why I love Los Angeles and the location of the conference. The ability to walk around and do shopping in beautiful weather and with Hollywood and Beverly Hills so close you can almost walk. Now I am back in Florida, hot and sticky and in the 90’s. I can’t wait for the cool sunny 70’s of Los Angeles in September!
