It’s easy to get stuck in the 9-to-5, ho-hum of the workplace. In fact, most people end up gaining weight when they work a normal desk job. So how in the world are you supposed to lose weight while you’re working?
If your health and/or wellness has become questionable, there are some things you can do to get healthy at work. Today, we’re going to give you five suggestions to help you get back on track.
1. Quit Bringing The Sweets
The first step in becoming healthier is to stop bringing so many sweets to work. It’s so easy to go in and grab a handful of M&M’s and continue on through the day. But those calories are unaccounted for and easy to be forgotten – that is until you step on a scale.
Instead of bringing sweets to work, replace them with fruits and other consumables such as nuts or wheat chips. These are healthier alternatives that don’t have nearly as many calories, plus they’ll fill you up faster and longer.
2. Take A Few More Breaks
As odd as this is going to sound, we want you to take more breaks. Here’s the reason why – when you take breaks, you tend to move more. The more you move, the more likely you are to burn extra calories.
Now, during your breaks, find a way to incorporate a few squats or lunges. Doing this will actually help to jumpstart your energy levels, giving you a boost of energy and helping you to stay focused more.
3. Change Your Desk
If your employer is looking for ways to make the office place healthier, suggest that they change your desk. Now, what do we mean by changing your desk?
Have you ever heard about a standing desk?
What about a treadmill desk like these?
Both of these desks are great for helping to create an environment of wellness and health. It’s been proven that sitting for a long time is actually bad for your health, especially your metabolism. So, just standing up more throughout the day will help to speed up how much you burning calories. But, you can go even further if you get a quality treadmill desk like one of these models recommended by 10 Desks. Now, not only are you standing, but you are moving too.
4. Join A Gym
Check with your company to see if you can get a gym membership discount by joining under their account. Most companies now have a corporate account that allows their employees to benefit from working under them.
Even if this is not an option, you should go join a gym. Yes, you probably don’t have the time. But, you need to find the time. Even if all you do is run on a treadmill for 10 minutes before going home, that’s a step in the right direction.
5. Make It A Competition
One final suggestion that we have for you is to make your health and weight loss goals a competition. How can you do that? Create a group in your company and have everyone compete to see who can lose the most weight.
At the end of a set period, say three months, have a check-in and see who won for that quarter. Make the prize worthwhile so that everyone will want to win. Now it’s a win-win situation for you and the rest of the office.
Say YES to A Healthier You
As you can see, it’s really not hard to get healthier. It does require a little bit of willpower, but it’s possible. Plus, there are other options including using the benefits of your company and/or having them by specialized equipment to help.
While it seems impossible to become healthier while working, it’s really not. There are options out there, just like we talked about today. You just have to be willing to take initiative – are you willing?
